» Skanksgiving Show Review (Pics and Vids Inside) |

It was a hell of a show last night at Gasoline Alley with close to 200 people watching 10 of the best ska bands from around the state of Florida playing from 5 PM to 1 AM. I knew the lineup was strong, but even I was blown away by how much energy they all brought.
We're hoping to do another big all-ages show some time in the Spring of 2010, so be on the lookout for information coming hopefully after the new year. And if you missed Skanksgiving, you'll want to make sure you don't miss the next one!
I had the opportunity to shoot a video of each of the ten bands and you'll find them below. Also, enjoy a few pictures taken of these bands during the show as well. Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the show, and to all of the bands who took the time to pack up all of their equipment and make the drive to Largo to support the scene here. You all kick ass!

It's Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. You're still sporting a Turkey and Pumpkin Pie hangover. All the relatives are gone and you're bored off of your ass. There isn't much to do on Black Friday other than battling hordes of zombie shoppers at the mall or your nearest Wal-Mart.
Well, there USED TO BE nothing to do on Black Friday...
Lucky for you, we took care of that for you. Welcome to Skanksgiving, our 2nd all-day all ages ska show at Gasoline Alley in Largo, Florida.

» Interview with Mustard Plug's Dave Kirchgessner |

If ska is indeed dead, its re-animated corpse is doing a pretty spirited moonstomp these days.
The 'Ska is Dead' tour will be rolling into The Crowbar in Ybor City on Friday as part of its 18-day leg of the American tour and I had a chance to talk with tour founder and lead vocalist for co-headliner Mustard Plug before the show.
Scotty Badfish: How did you decide to put the show together?
Dave Kirchgessner: I put the tour together about 5 years ago. At the time Ska was kind having a hangover from it's huge wave of mainstream popularity in the 1990's. There were still a lot of true believers out there but I felt it would take a big festival style tour to really make the promoters and media wake up to the fact that ska's demise had been greatly exagerated.

» CD Review: VoC - Roll the Dice |

Somewhere around the crest of the Sand Key Bridge, loaded with a cynical yet sunny disposition from the current state of affairs, a panoramic view of Florida’s Gulf picturesque beaches laid out in front of you and a kicking hangover thumping in your head from the night before, it hits you.
This is the sort of scene that probably provided the inspiration for the creation of the soundtrack that is currently coming from the blown-out speakers of my stereo.
The soundtrack is being provided by Victims of Circumstance’s latest album ‘Roll the Dice.’ The hangover is courtesy of saxophonist Jay Atheney and the rest of the VoC family following their CD release party at Gasoline Alley in Clearwater.
